At 20, Alicia Sacramone is already an accomplished veteran on the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team. Last year she helped the USA win team gold at the world championships. Individually, she took silver on floor and bronze on vault at worlds.

Miles Avery, Ohio State men’s gymnastics head coach and personal coach for Paul and Morgan Hamm and Blaine Wilson, was awarded the 2008 USA Gymnastics Coach of the Year honor after a vote by his peers at the 2008 VISA Championships last weekend in Houston.

Paul Hamm successfully underwent hand surgery earlier today. Hamm broke the fourth metacarpal of his right hand on May 22 during his parallel bars routine at the 2008 Visa Championships in Houston, Texas.

Based on X-rays taken this morning at Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine, Paul Hamm fractured the fourth metacarpal on his right hand. The injury occurred on the parallel bars during the first night of men’s competition at the 2008 Visa Championships in Houston. Hamm has withdrawn from the Visa Championships. He will have the opportunity to petition to the Men’s Program Committee for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics.

2004 Olympic all-around champion Paul Hamm of Waukesha, Wis., leads the men’s all-around competition at the 2008 Visa Championships at Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas, after the first of two days of competition. The final round is Saturday, May 24, at 6 p.m. CT.

Dec 07 – China: Contracts to prevent serious injuries and drug use
In an unusual move to secure a gymnastics golden harvest at next year’s Olympic Games, Chinese gymnasts and their coaches will sign contracts with the sport’s state governing center to ensure everyone in the 2008 lineup will be injury free and drug free. All the Chinese national coaches will sign contracts to prevent serious injuries from happening before the Beijing Games.
